Is EPS Safe? Debunking Myths About Fire, Strength and Durability

“Won’t it burn?” “Isn’t it just foam?” These are the questions we hear most — and the answers may surprise you. Construction-grade EPS is manufactured with flame-retardant additives, and once encased in concrete, EPS panel walls achieve fire resistance ratings that meet residential and commercial building codes.

On strength: while raw EPS is light, the finished sandwich of steel mesh, concrete and EPS core forms a monolithic structural wall with excellent load-bearing, wind and impact resistance — proven in seismic zones worldwide.

On durability: EPS does not rot, decay or absorb significant moisture, and it offers no food value to termites or rodents. Properly built EPS homes are engineered to last generations. The myths come from confusing packaging foam with engineered building systems — two very different worlds.
